Snow Day | Austin

4 02 2011

What’s that?  Snow in Austin! Um yeah!  I know the weatherman had said all week that we would get snow on Friday but it was one of those “Oh I’ll believe it, when I see it” kind of things.  Well I see it and I believe it!  I’m so excited!!  Earlier this week I was feeling a little homesick/jealous of all the people in Fort Worth getting to enjoy the snow and have time off work but now…I’m in their boat.  Snow on the ground and work delayed for at least a few hours.  Time to post up on the couch with some hot chocolate and a good movie.

About froze my finger off writing in the snow….

Happy Snow Day ATX!!

Jasmine Star | Learning

4 02 2011

Monday! Monday! Monday! Was all I could think about last week becaaaaaaause last Monday I to got to meet the one and only Jasmine Star!!  For those non-photogs, Jasmine Star is onnnnly one of the TOP TEN wedding photographers In. The. World.  That’s right, The World.  A-mazing!

I remember the fist time my roomie, Katie, introduced me to the talent that is J*.  It was a Creative Live workshop. (Side note: Creative Live is a fantastic new online resource that I HIGHLY recommend you check out.  Lots of great workshops on lots of great topics)  Creative Live is awesome because the workshops are broadcast live(hence the name) and they also replay the workshops in the same day(after that you have to purchase to re-watch).  The J* workshop was 5 days, although, I only got to see a couple of the days due to scheduling.  One of those days I caught the replay which ran until about 4am…if you know me, then you know I find sleep to be very important.  I love sleep almost as much as I love food but, in this case, the missed zzzz’s were totally worth it.  Jasmine was absolutely incredible so when Kaite told me J* would be doing another workshop only a couple hours away from us I thought, we HAVE to go!!!

So last Monday we loaded up and headed over to College Station.  Not gonna lie, that’s the most excited I’ve ever been to head to CS.  Although, we left a little later than anticipated, got a little lost and were delayed just a bit by dinner we still made it just in time to see J* take the stage.

After all the fantastic tips it was time for the meet and greet!!!

Me and J* Ahhhh!!!(I might have been just the tiniest bit excited)

Katie and her idol

We also met JD, J*’s husband and her right hand man, also known as our new bff 🙂

The whole workshop was A-mazing!  Definitely worth every penny.

Thank you SO much to Jasmine and JD for coming to Texas!  You guys ROCK!  We had a great time!  Please come back soon but maybe come to Austin next time.  You can crash at our place. K? K! 😉

PB & B Milkshakes | Munchies

4 02 2011

When its freezing outside most people want to eat warm things like soup, stew or baked potatoes.  Again, that is most people…what do I want when it’s freezing outside?  Umm a milkshake.  Duh.  Gotta love that sweet tooth.

So in the spirit of MMMmmmmbracing the cold.  I decided to throw a little something together.  As usual, there is no method to my madness so attempt this recipe at your own risk.

You will need everything pictured below:

*Ice Cream *Milk *Peanut Butter *Bananas

Ice Cream! Yum!

Mason Jar Milkshake(my new signature drink)

The Aftermath

Oh and the instructions….umm throw everything in a blender and ta dah! Milkshake.  Like I said, there really is no method to this one.  Just flavor to your taste.  Enjoy!

Got a good shake idea?  Share please. 🙂

Community Lunch | Philanthropy

2 02 2011

So this post is a bit over due considering it’s from Christmas buuutttt….I’ve been busy?  Anywho.  On Christmas morning I headed up to church with my Dad to help with the Christmas lunch for the community.  There was a ton of food, a plethora of delicious desserts, and lots of volunteers which was great considering we had around 800 people to serve!  Everyone jumped to action, taking care of each assignment.  People were cooking, serving drinks, divvying up desserts, packing meals for the home bound.  You name it, it was getting done.

With the map laid out, volunteers ready and meals packed it was time to hit the town to serve the home bound.

But not before a quick blessing.

With the helpers in place…

even the little ones…

it was time to serve.

What a crowd!  Thank you to all of those that attended and served!  It was  a blessing all around.  Definitely a great way to share the spirit of Christmas.

Bruschetta | Munchies

2 02 2011

Mmmm homemade bruschetta.   Please note, I have no true recipe…I just kind of throw things together so flavor to taste 🙂

You will need:

Tomatoes

Fresh Chopped Basil

Extra Virgin Olive Oil(EVOO)

Salt & Pepper

Garlic Salt

Crostnins

Mozzarella Cheese(Shredded or Shaved)

To get things going you’ll need to wash and dice the tomatoes.  Then add the tomatoes to a bowl with EVOO, S & P and basil.  Stir and flavor to taste(I like a lot of EVOO).  Then cover and place the mixture in the fridge to chill.  While the tomatoes are marinating, it’s time to take care of the crostinis.

Preheat the broiler to whatever setting you are most comfortable using.  Place the crostinis on a baking sheet and lightly brush each with EVOO.  Then sprinkle with garlic salt and a little shredded mozzarella.  Place the baking sheet on the top rack and wait ummm a couple of minutes?  I don’t know exactly how long, I just watch them.  Once the edges turn brown and the cheese is bubbling they are ready to go.  Remove the crostinis and place them on a plate to cool.  When the crostinis are back to room temperature you can bust out the tomatoes!!

Simply spoon the tomato mixture on top of the crostinis, drizzle with a little EVOO, top with mozzarella and voilà!  You’re now a World Class Chef!  Ok, maybe not World Class but you definitely feel fancy, huh?

Week 52: Cold

1 01 2011

AH! This is the last challenge of 2010!  What a year it has been…the year started with change.  I was laid off in February, my lease at a place I had called home for 4 years was up at the end of March and by April I was calling Austin home.  I fell in love with the city, traveled, met lots of new people, enjoyed some great food, listened to a ton of live music, and had countless adventures.  I’m greatful every day for the many blessing in my life.  C-ya 2010!  Bring it on 2011!

The last challenge: Cold.

Nothing like a cold beverage to ring in the new year.  No, I don’t drink gin(gag) but my roommate does and the label was fancy(you fancy huh).

Happy New Year!
