Torchy’s Tacos | Munchies

17 02 2011

Torchy’s Tacos speaks for itself.  Delicious! Any location, any time.  If you live in Austin and you haven’t eaten at Torchy’s, shame on you.  You’re missin out.

My staple, the Green Chile Pork Taco.

Slow roasted pork carnitas simmered with green chiles and topped with queso fresco, cilantro, onions(- the onions on mine) and a wedge of lime.  Served with tasty tomatillo sauce.

Coming in at a VERY close second, the Fried Avocado Taco.

Hand-battered fresh avocados fried and served with vegetarian refried beans, topped with pico, lettuce and cheese.  Served with poblano sauce.

Their tag line is SO right.  Their tacos are always…

Kerbey Lane Cafe, serving comfort food 24/7 since 1980.

I recently went to the South Lamar location.  It wasn’t much for atmosphere but the food was good.  We started with the Cowboy Queso – black beans, guacamole and queso topped with pico.  It was pretty tasty.  I wasn’t really impressed with the salsa.  My meal, a gingerbread pancake with a side of sausage, was great.  And yes I went from eating queso to breakfast food at an afternoon lunch, why not?  The overall experience was ok, the food being the best part.

We went out to Possum Kingdom Lake to enjoy the three day weekend.  Thank you Labor Day!  We hung out at Hell’s Gate Saturday afternoon and spent most of Sunday wakeboarding or, in my case, trying to wakeboard.  I may not have gotten up on the board but it wasn’t for a lack of effort.  This post is a collection of things from the weekend.  Enjoy!
