Week 30: Black and white portrait

3 09 2010

Meet my parents, Charlie and Kimberlie!  You may actually remember them from the Mi Familia shoot back in November.   They are always such good sports and are willing to help me out when I need a favor.  In this case, the favor was for them to pose for my week 30 assignment.  So after dinner we had a quick ten minute shoot.  I love my parents; they are always a lot of fun.  They had such a great time laughing and cutting up.  It’s easy to see their genuine love and respect for one another.

They will have been married for 28 years(Congrats guys!!) this month so I titled this picture,  A black and white portrait of 28 years of love.  🙂

To my parents:  I am very blessed to have you guys in my life!  Thank you so much for your constant love and support.  I love you guys!!

“Listen, my child, to your father’s instructions and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.  What you learn from them will crown you with grace and clothe you with honor.”  – Proverbs 1:8-9

Meet mi familia

11 12 2009

This year, the day after Thanksgiving was turned into family photo day!   Mainly because I wanted/needed the practice and my family loves me so they were willing. 🙂  It was such a nice relaxing day.   We went out to my grandparents’ farm and looked through old family photos, drove over to Brownwood to eat at Underwood’s (yum!) and ended up back in the big ole town of De Leon.  We posted up at the old train station for most of the shoot which was once the heart of the town.  We played on the tracks and the platform where my Papa said he used to catch the train as kid.  So much history in such a tiny town.  Here are my favorites from the day.  Enjoy!

And last but certainly not least, my favorite picture of the day.

Val + Andrea | Mother + Daughter

9 12 2009

Andrea and I have been friends since our freshmen year of college.  We both went potluck and the good Lord above put us together.  I really do feel blessed to have her in my life; not  only is she smart and beautiful, she’s also caring and awkwardly hilarious.  I love her and her family dearly.  So when she asked if I could help out with her Mom’s surprise party, I jumped at the chance.

“The Plan:” Mother, daughter photo shoot/ practice for me

The Actual Plan: Keep Val distracted until 5:45p.m. for her surprise birthday party being set up at her own house. 🙂

We had a fun time playing decoy.  Luckily during their outfit selection Val suggested Andrea and I come over for dinner since her husband, Mike, had been making so much food earlier that day (gee I wonder why he was doing that 😉 ).   So we didn’t even have to make anything up!  She invited us to her own party!   Once we got downtown we only had about an hour or two before Andrea and I had to start “acting hungry” so we made good use of our time.  We were able to test a couple of different spots and we even found a hillside straight out of Ireland right here in downtown Fort Worth.  Greatness, definitely using that site again!

Special thanks to these ladies and Happy Birthday to them both!!!   They did a fantastic job and I was very grateful for the opportunity, decoy or not.

Softball Sweethearts

7 09 2009

Hogan is on two softball teams this season; the Sofa Kings play on Tuesday nights  and the Hot Snakes(which you’ve seen in a previous post) play on Wednesday nights.  This past Tuesday night, I was blessed with the company of Hogan’s Mom, his Uncle and his cousin, Carrie, along with three of her little girls, Skyleigh, Cami and Scout.   I was beyond grateful that they came out to the game; not only were they good company but the girls also provided great photo ops.  Cami and Scout were so excited once they figured out they could see themselves on my screen after I took their picture.  From then on it was, “ok, take my picture,” they’d run over to me, take a look, laugh and run back to pose, “ok, take my picture.” Scout cracked me up; I took her picture, she ran over to look at it and exclaimed, “ewww, my face is dirty.”  Granted she had just finished with a ketchup covered chicken strip and a chill cheese nacho, haha.  Adorable.

As for the game, the guys put up a good fight but lost in the last inning by one run.  It was a great game though, lots of action.

And so it begins…

24 07 2009

So my first official post goes to my first couple of outings with my camera.  The first was a trip to Possum Kingdom for the weekend back in May.  We stayed at my friend’s place which was beyond words.  Next to his cabana was a little seating area with a fan in the tree.  Odd, I know but I thought it was neat.  On our way home I asked if we could stop if we saw any deer.  It was like God smiled on us that day.  We came around a turn and there were 10+ deer just chillin in an open area full of yellow, purple and red flowers.  So beautiful!

My favorite picture from the trip was actually a reflection.  We were walking into Skinny’s in Weatherford(great burgers!) and the guys walked past a puddle that struck my eye.  If you look closely the picture is upside down.  The reflection starts where their legs stop.  I didn’t get the total body shot b/c well, they were hung over so that would have just been cruel.  Turned out to be a cool pic though.

The other pics are from a Sunday fun day at Fred’s Texas Cafe over off 7th.  They also have a great burger, expensive but good.  One pic is a quick shot of a little girl playing around.  The other pic is of a good ole boy.  I like to call his pic, portrait of a patriot. 🙂

Well that’s it for the first post.  I’m still trying to figure out wordpress so hopefully my posts improve over time. 🙂  More to come soon!  Please enjoy and let me know your thoughts.
